GoPro has published a second look at its upcoming “new generation” of camera which features the new GP3 processor and is expected to launch sometime in the next few months.

GoPro still has not revealed exactly what its new camera will be or what it will look like, but has said that the GP3 processor will be for “action cameras, 360 cameras, vlogging cameras, and ultra-premium, compact cinema-grade cameras.” It is a 5-nanometer System-on-a-Chip (SoC) with “superior AI-driven image quality and low-light performance over its predecessor, GP2.”

In early March, the company released a few still images that it says were captured on its next generation system. It followed that up two weeks later with a short series of video clips that were designed to showcase the capabilities of its forthcoming camera.

This week, it released a second set of clips that take the camera off-roading, into the night, and under water, further building hype for what might be GoPro’s last attempt to win back market share.

“These advancements position GP3 to usher in a new era of professional-level image quality, low-light performance, resolution and frame rates for small form-factor camera markets, including action cameras, 360 cameras, vlogging cameras, and ultra-premium, compact cinema-grade cameras,” GoPro has said of its upcoming technology.

Of note, GoPro has not said anything about the sensor in front of the GP3 processor, so what it has shared publicly is only half the story. It’s hard not to be impressed with the samples GoPro has thus far shared, but without knowing how those clips were captured and under what circumstances, it’s difficult to get too excited just yet. Still, GoPro’s continued hype for the system shows that the company feels rather confident in what it is about to show off.

“GP3’s bleeding-edge, cinema-grade performance will enable GoPro to enter the ultra-premium end of the imaging market this year, serving the needs of a new, higher-end market segment that can grow GoPro’s business and brand,” Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s founder and CEO, says of its new processor. “We’re excited for GP3 to empower GoPro as both an innovator and disrupter as we look to grow our business through market-leading technology and performance.”
