Luminar Neo’s Upcoming Color Transfer Tool Uses AI to Match Colors
Skylum has announced the next major update to its photo editing software, Luminar Neo. This October, the update will introduce several “cutting-edge” enhancements driven by improvements in generative AI technology.
According to the company, the “Fall Upgrade” will also include several highly-requested features from the Luminar user community designed to make the overall experience for creatives smoother and more intuitive, starting with a new Color Transfer tool that will allow users to transfer colors from a reference image to another photograph. Users can adjust the results with sliders and use AI to match colors between objects, such as car-to-car, sky-to-sky, and wall-to-wall, giving users more creative flexibility and precision. Creatives can mimic the style of some of their favorite photographers’ styles and recreate colors from an inspirational shot found online or even simply from an older image in their archive.
The autumn update will also include a new Color Masking tool for creating masks based on selected colors within images. Users can adjust the color range using a slider for precision control over the affected areas, making targeted edits easier and more effective.
In addition to the color tools, another new feature is the Smart Search, a machine learning-based search tool that enables users to find images not only by essential attributes like file names and dates but also by the type of content within the images, such as objects like trees, traffic signs, cars, and scenes like sunsets, beaches, and mountains. This tool will provide users with advanced search capabilities that make finding a specific image or images from their catalogs much faster and easier.
The fall update will also improve the performance of Generative Tools thanks to new algorithms for the GenErase, GenSwap, and GenExpand tools, allowing users to create more detailed and realistic images.
The Filmstrip in the Edit Tab will allow users to swap quickly between images without having to exit catalog mode. This will allow them to maintain focus on image editing and provide quick synchronization across all images.
Finally, the update will add Improved Catalog Navigation, promising enhanced photo organization with filtering options by camera model, focal length, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, rating, and other parameters to easily locate the exact image users are searching for. The improved catalog will also allow users to sort folders and albums by various attributes for easier access and use star ratings to organize and manage their files better.
