When a Tornado and Flash Flood Crash the Wedding You’re Shooting
Videographer Adam Grumbo was shooting a wedding in Austin, Texas, recently when a flash flood and tornado crashed the festivities and turned things upside down.
“Colin and Kimberly had no idea what they were in for when they arrived at Pecan Springs Ranch in Texas,” Grumbo tells PetaPixel. “Swapping a few items around, made for an unusual timeline of a wedding day. Cocktail hour turned into 3 hours, and dinner soon after.
“Eventually the ceremony would happen, but not until after a tornado convinced planners to move it to midway through the reception. Everyone worked together to create a memorable and lovely wedding with a little excitement to boot!”

“Thank goodness for good weather sealing,” says Grumbo, who was shooting with a Canon 1DX Mark II and a Panasonic S1. “The cameras used are no worse for wear.
“They did a great job keeping the water out of the body, and are working great still! Quality equipment goes a long way.”
“When you start the day with 100 degrees and sunny and it ends with a flash flood and a tornado, you have to get creative to come away with some good images,” Grumbo says. “Luckily the bride and groom were rolling with the punches to create a wedding that no one will soon forget.”

“This has got to be the worst wedding, weather-wise, I have ever been to, and I have been to some terrible ones,” Grumbo says. “This is also probably the most amazing wedding I’ve seen, because of how all the vendors, the family and the couple came together to make the most of it.
“Kimberly and Colin and all the vendors pitched in to help, and the entire wedding party was nothing but smiles. Colin and Kimberly are some of the most pleasant, loving, and beautiful people you could ever hope to have on a day like this.
“I can’t think of too many people who would be faced with the fury of mother nature, and still be celebrating and laughing the night through. No one is going to forget this one.”
