Sony Debuts World’s Fastest USB Hub with Card Reader and HDMI Support

Earlier today, Sony revealed what they’re calling the world’s fastest smart multifunction USB hub: a smart USB-C hub designed for “enhanced workflow efficiency for photographers, videographers and creators.”

The USB 3.1 Gen 2 hub, model number MRW-S3 if you’re curious, claims to beat out every other option out there in terms of speed, while packing in just about every port you’ll ever need. That includes a UHS-II SD/microSD card reader, USB Type-C and USB Type-A ports, an HDMI port, and up to 100W of power delivery through one USB PD compatible port.

“Professional photographers, videographers and creators no longer need to worry about carrying numerous adapters or fret about using up ports on their latest PCs with USB Type-C ports,” writes Sony. “The MRW-S3 is a one-stop solution for fast and reliable data transfer in the form of a handy USB Hub.”

Not only are you getting blazing fast data transfer of up to 1000MB/s while delivering 100W of power so you don’t actually lose a port in the process, the thing also features an HDMI port with 4K/30p support so you can connect your external monitor through the same hub, all while you’re offloading the latest shoot off of your SD card.

There are hubs out there that offer dual monitor support, or support for up to 4K/60p for you video editors, but we haven’t seen anything portable that combines 4K monitor support with 100W of power delivery, USB 3.1 Gen 2 transfer speeds and UHS-II SD/microSD card readers.

The MRW-S3 is set to launch in “Fall 2019,” price TBD. To learn more about the USB hub that might just be your best chance to escape that dongle life, head over to the Sony website.
