GoPro Unveils the HERO7 Black, Silver, and White Action Cameras

GoPro has just announced the HERO7 lineup of action cameras. The family consists of three new cameras: the HERO7 Black, HERO7 Silver, and HERO7 white.

GoPro HERO7 Black

At the top of the line is the flagship HERO7 Black, which features improved video stabilization and a new feature called HyperSmooth.

“HyperSmooth is the best in-camera video stabilization ever featured in a camera,” GoPro says. “It makes it easy to capture professional-looking, gimbal-like stabilized video without the expense or hassle of a motorized gimbal. And HyperSmooth works underwater and in high-shock and wind situations where gimbals fail.”

The GoPro HERO7 Black also brings a new type of video called the TimeWarp (commonly known as the “hyperlapse”), which applies a high-speed,
“‘magic carpet ride’ effect,” GoPro says.

The HERO7 Black is also the first GoPro camera that’s capable of livestreaming, allowing users to automatically share video in real-time to services such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo.

Resolution-wise, the HERO7 Black can shoo t12-megapixel photos and 4K60 and 1080p240 video.

Other specs and features of the HERO7 Black include a 2-inch touchscreen, waterproofing down to 33ft (10m), voice control, 8x slow-mo, a photo timber, enhanced audio, GPS, and HDR.

Here’s a 2-minute video introducing the HERO7 Black:

GoPro HERO7 Silver

The HERO7 Silver shares many features (e.g. waterproofing, voice control, touchscreen, Wi-Fi) with the Black except it leaves out certain bells and whistles.

It lacks HyperSmooth stabilization (there’s built-in electronic stabilization) and Live Streaming, and it only offers Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) instead of High Dynamic Range (HDR).

The camera shoots 10MP photos (down from 12MP) and can capture 4K video, except at 30fps instead of 60. There’s no 8x slow mo either, but 2x instead.

GoPro HERO7 White

Finally, the HERO7 White is the simplest and cheapest of the three models. It lacks greater dynamic range and doesn’t even have GPS built in.

It’s a 10-megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p60 video (there’s no 4K). You can still control it with your voice, use the touchscreen on the back, and bring it into water down to 33ft (10m).

Pricing and Availability

The HERO7 Black, Silver, and White will have price tags of $399, $299, and $199, respectively. Pre-orders start today and all three cameras will hit store shelves on September 30th.
