Corel Unveils PaintShop Pro 2018 with More Speed, Sleekness, and Features

Corel today introduced PaintShop Pro 2018, the latest version of the Canadian company’s photo editing software. This new version brings a number of notable improvements that include performance boosts, user interface redesigns, and features added.

In the area of performance, PaintShop Pro 2018 launches 50% faster than its predecessor and the program’s most popular tools now apply near-instant results to photos (assuming your computer’s performance can keep up). Depth of Field adjustments can now be made 4 times faster than before.

The user interface has received a number of improvements as well. There are now two new workspaces that can be geared to your photo editing abilities. An Essentials workspace offers a streamlined interface designed for newbies, while the Complete workspace puts all available tools and options at an expert photographer’s fingertips.

The Essentials workspace.

Toolbars now feature larger icons, and a new Quick Customize feature lets you customize the toolbar to include only the tools you want, where you want them. Finally, the interface now plays nicely with touch and pen input methods.

PaintShop Pro 2018 contains over 125 new brushes, gradients, textures, and patterns. If you need high-end photo tools, the pricier PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate has $250-worth of add-ons bundled in for working on your images. There are Painter Essentials 5 (for turning your photos into artworks), Perfectly Clear 3 (for correcting detail, color, and other elements in photos), and AfterShot 3.

AfterShot 3 is the add-on that helps the program compete more directly with Adobe’s Creative Cloud photo offerings. It features digital asset management (like Lightroom), RAW conversion, and non-destructive photo editing.

One of the main selling points Corel is touting is the fact that PaintShop Pro is still subscription free. Buy the software once, and you can use it forever. PaintShop Pro 2018 costs $80 and PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate is priced at $100. If you’re an existing user, you’ll be able to have special upgrade pricing if you’d like to jump to the 2018 version. You can try (via a 30-day trial) and buy PaintShop Pro 2018 starting today on the software’s website.
