Canon Unveils Free Webcam Software for Mac Users
Canon was rightly praised when it unveiled its EOS Webcam Utility last month, allowing users to turn many of the company’s most popular DSLRs and mirrorless cameras into webcams without using a capture card. There was just one issue: the Beta was Windows only. Well, not anymore.
Just minutes ago, Canon announced that EOS Webcam Utility has officially been released on MacOS. In a not-so-humble press release titled “You Asked, Canon Delivers,” the company pats itself on the back for acting on feedback from Apple users who made their disappointment known “through multiple Canon social media channels, customer comments and media inquiries.”
“Similar to the Windows operating system version released April 28, the new macOS compatible software solution requires one single USB [cable] to connect the compatible camera to the computer,” writes Canon. “Once the software is downloaded and the camera is configured within a video conferencing application, the user will have improved video appearance while participating in video conferencing and virtual meetings.”

And if you’re not a Canon user, keep in mind that there are MacOS workarounds that will work with other brands. Fuji just launched its own Webcam software this morning, but like Canon did originally, Fuji’s first iteration is Windows only.
