Dogs and Peanut Butter: A Match Made in Photo Book Heaven

If you have a dog, you know the magic of the substance known as peanut butter—a small smudge on their nose and they’ll be busy for the next 30 minutes. And now, animal photographer Greg Murray is capturing this magic in his photo book For the Love of Peanut Butter.

The series needs little explanation: dogs and peanut butter is a pretty self-explanatory portrait subject. But that doesn’t mean this book has been easy to put together.

Every shoot is a huge challenge. I have 10 minutes or so to get a photo that I can use for the book. We don’t want to give them too much peanut butter so we only have a little bit of time to shoot. It’s a treat and just like humans, too much of anything isn’t healthy.

Since he doesn’t turn dogs away, he sometimes has to deal with very fidgety pups.

“It’s a challenge and I’m patient,” he told us over email. “I send out a survey prior to each shoot to get to know the dog a bit. But in the end, I’m going into every shoot not knowing what’s going to happen.”

In the end, the challenge is totally worth it to capture photos like these:

All in all, For the Love of Peanut Butter contains over 115 portraits like these of some 100 dogs sharing their love of PB with the world. The book is currently up on Kickstarter and is well-funded, having raised over $15,000 agains a goal of just $3,750.

If you want your own copy, head over to Kickstarter and be ready to drop $75 on a 10″ x 8″ soft cover copy, $90 for the same size in hard cover, or $40 for an 11″ x 8.5″ 2017 For the Love of Peanut Butter wall calendar. Greg plans to ship out the books starting in October.
