Kim Kardashian is Publishing a Coffee Table Book of Her Selfies… That’s Happening

There must be millions upon millions of ways to spend $20, but if April of next year rolls around and for some reason you want to pick the absolute most ridiculous one of the bunch, Kim Kardashian has just rolled into the bottom spot with the announcement that she will be publishing a coffee table book of her selfies that month.

Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be a joke despite the appropriately picked release month. According to US Weekly, the Kim Kardashian Selfish photobook will be hitting shelves through Rizzoli publishing for $19.95 on April 7th, 2015.

Here’s a snippet of the book’s description from the Rizzoli website:

Widely regarded as a trailblazer of the “selfie movement” — a modern-day self-portrait of the digital age — Kim has mastered the art of taking flattering and highly personal photos of oneself.

For the first time in print, this book presents some of Kim’s favorite selfies in one volume—from her favorite throwback images to current ultra-sexy glam shots—and provides readers with a behind-the-scenes look into this larger-than-life star.

There’s only one thing left to say now… we’ll let Michael Scott take it from here:

  • Renato Murakami

If someone called me a trailblazer of the “selfie movement”, I’d return a punch in the face. :P

  • usmale9659

It’s not sad that she’s publishing the book, she’s just out to make the bucks. The sad thing is that people will actually buy it.

  • Greg Heller

Are you sh***ing me? The only sadder thing is that several million a**holes will pay an exorbitant amount for it, making her richer than she already is for doing absolutely nothing. Don’t tell me Americans values aren’t f***ed up.

  • Ivor Wilson

Excellent… I do like expensive kindling.

  • Oliver Fergusson-Taylor

not really news i need to know or care to hear about… but if you want to
broadcast this woman’s actions i am sure she is happy to receive the
free press… might even get a book sale or two out of it.

  • Mike

I guess I’ll never get to know how it feels to exist when the only thing you have to offer the world is a pair of fake tits.

  • Omar Salgado

“Larger-than-life” star? But she’s just a null person.

  • EPOC

She should have priced it for $79.95

  • Scott

Well, at least she named it correctly.

  • Stephen S.

Let’s see the actual sales numbers first. Plenty of celebrity books flop.

  • David Addams

I’m not sure what I find more disturbing: the idea that Kim Kardashian is self-absorbed enough to believe people will want to buy a bunch of photos she took of herself, or the thought that there are people celebrity obsessed enough to actually buy this thing.

  • chillgreg

Please let the digsuting fatassed dog die in a plane crash with bieber and azalea.

  • Stephen S.

The book’s publication itself doesn’t mean Kardashian is self-absorbed. If somebody offered me a five-figure advance (that’s just a guess) to publish a book of my selfies, I’d sign that contract in a heartbeat.

However, the fact that she has taken enough selfies to fill a book in the first place…

  • NDT001

I really hate her and her conceited, fame hungry family. She represents everything that is wrong with American society, yes she is obsessively watched and followed, so who is really the stupid one here? No market, no product.

  • DantheMan

She maybe the most vapid “celebrity” of our generation, but she is NOT a liar. (in this case)

  • Marc Sadowski

    You, sir, win the Internets.

  • bob cooley

Ahh, but there is an upside! Wait for the legions of Amazon (and Goodreads) reviewers. Amazon reviews are great reading when the product is a good enough target :)

  • Bewar3them00n

And a fake arse, not to mention sham marriage! , see how long that lasts when Kanye goes off on another rant about the pap photographers not leaving him alone….. Oh the irony!

  • ramanauskas

  • elmakias

    this is amazing! yes. Haha.

  • Eden Wong

    Barf… Puke… Vomit… etc…

Kim K has figured out a way to monetize self-absorbtion.

I know of a very successful fine art photographer who sells his prints to well-heeled cottage country vacationers. He mentioned that while his prints aren’t great from an artistic POV, he knows exactly what his target demographic wants, but more importantly, he knows how to convince buyers to pay top dollar to purchase his product.

Isn’t KK’s situation somewhat parallel. While no one is going to admit that this book is going to be a masterful piece of art, there is an audience ready to lap it up. Kim K is a marketing maven…a celebrity for the sake of being a celebrity. She is clever enough to know how to monetize her fame and deliver a product that her fans will gladly fork over money as a chance to embrace a part of that aura. Whether we agree or not with the validity of her persona, I have to give her kudo’s for having the ability to create something out of nothing.

Based on most of the comments, I would guess that the bulk of the readers of this blog would view the book as “fluff”. It is what it is, but if she knows how to create a marketable product from nothing, perhaps there is something to be learned here. It’s entirely possible that she feels that the book is not worth the paper it’s printed on (I’m just speculating), but also knows it can create an additional revenue stream with little effort by turning self-absorbtion – “selfies” – (with a little bit of fun along the way) into something her fans would gladly pay money for.

While I won’t buy the book, I still think it’s clever that KK figured out another marketing move to connect with her fanbase. So many young people today seem to want to be rich, popular, and self-absorbed. This is another chance for them to experience her persona and lifestyle vicariously.

Out of curiosity, if Neil Armstrong made a book of selfies taken while walking around on the surface of the moon, would there still be such a strong negative reaction???

  • Ivor Wilson

“Out of curiosity, if Neil Armstrong made a book of selfies taken while
walking around on the surface of the moon, would there still be such a
    strong negative reaction???”

I’m going to avoid asking the obvious here.

…pah, no chance. Are you seriously equating the two?

When is she just going to go away…

  • Marc St.Onge

Dear Petapixel, I really enjoy your site but if you want me to click away from it all you have to do is put the word “Kardashian” in the title and I’m gone. Even “Kard” does it. Sorry.

  • Don Davis

For the love of God, get me some eye bleach!

  • Omar Salgado

…”to create something out of nothing.”

No. She created nothing out of nothing. Her marketing skills rely not on ingenuity, but in ignorance of the ones who follow her. That work, the book, is worth nothing. So do we have to “learn” something from her? I don’t think so unless it is being mediocre and giving mediocre things to mediocre people.

  • Tom Larkin

I know where you can get it for tree fiddy

  • Edgar Allan Bro

As much as I want someone to push Kim Kardashian off a cliff and into an ocean of cancerAIDS, inhabited by laser-wielding sharks… she is just selling what the market is buying. You want to hate someone, hate the dummies who lap up her and her garbage family.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Etc.

  • Ned Mathis

I heard the first round of selfies will first be published on Quilted Northern. With Scott and Angel Soft soon to follow. Only $2.99 per roll.

  • Kris Tavis

I’m actually thinking about buying this, then cutting each page out to have them laminated and rebound. Then I can just keep this on my coffee table with a collection of wet-erase pens so my guests can defile Kim Kardashian to their hearts content. As soon as they leave, I can just clear it off with a wet paper towel and start the fun all over!

  • Kris Tavis

Except there’s one born more frequently than every minute.

  • Kris Tavis

Then you must be the Lochness Monster.

  • DEFC

I always think of her as the embodiement of the stupidity of American pop culture.
i bet the person that wrote that description was laughing all the way haha.

  • Carmen Anthony

I am not sure about this, she tweets everything every day, so we seen it already, why don’t she keep her those for her husband, since he is the only one that finds her so amazing… Beautiful woman, but I think she has run out of things to do. Kim, write a children’s book or something. this is not exciting to anyone but Kenye, selfies of “YOU”

  • Daniel Cely

larger-than-life Star?? seriously hahaha, talking about losing faith in humanity

  • Jean Fraser McCarthy

This is why we can’t have nice things.

  • Oslo Redgrave

In the meantime, I’m selling a book of street and portrait photography titled Nouns (Of The Person and Place Variety). It’s my first book and it doesn’t feature any selfies made by camera phone. It’s on Blurb and if you want to buy it in print or ebook form, you’re more than welcome to do so. I’m sure you’ll feel MUCH better about having my book on your coffee table as opposed to a bunch of badly composed instagram pics.

As long as I live, I’ll never understand Cindy Sherman’s appeal. Had she not been part of Warhol’s tribe, I think she would have gone unnoticed in history.
