Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photog Talks About the Humanistic Approach in Her Work

Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Deanne Fitzmaurice sat down with Marc Silber on Advancing Your Photography recently to discuss how she approaches capturing life through a lens.

Having shot for the likes of National Geographic, Sports Illustrated and TIME Magazine, as well as partnering with a plethora of non-profits, Fitzmaurice’s words throughout the video are made all the more powerful by her actions. She speaks to humanizing the story through the subject, saying, “when I pick up a camera, I try to make a human connection with my subject, and try to humanize an issue.”

Throughout the entire video, her words and reflection on previous projects only echo that sentiment. The video comes in at six minutes and is full of touching stories and tidbits of advice on everything from planning to actually shooting on-location. Whether looking for some inspiration or advice, you’ve come to the right place.
