DOGHOUSEDIARIES created this humorous glimpse into what the Fortune 500 company list will look like 18 years from now, in the year 2030. We see that “Undo Instagram Filters Inc.” leads the pack with $2.88 trillion in annual revenue.
It’s obviously satirical, but it does cause you to think… What is the world going to do with the unfathomably large pile of filtered photos if/when the fake retro look goes out of style?
A staggering 4 billion photographs have been uploaded so far to the 22-month-old photo sharing service, which averages to about 70 photos shared every single second over that period.
Many, if not most, of those photos have retro filters permanently applied to the images, meaning the original JPG versions were discarded and are lost forever.
Is the Instagram retro look going to be one of the defining styles of this era’s photography? Will future generations look back fondly on the aesthetic, just as we look back on the daguerreotype, or will they be shaking their heads and tsking.
Instagram reversal apps are already starting to emerge, so perhaps a company dedicated to reversing Instagram filters isn’t too farfetched or too far off.
