The Stunning Colors of the Holi Festival in India Captured at 2,500FPS

New York-based production company Variable traveled to India and pointed a Phantom Flex high speed camera at the Holi festival celebrations.

The world is fascinating. People and cultures inspire us. Sadly, the fast paced lifestyles of our generation result in many not taking the necessary step back to soak in the existing world around us. Our goal with this film is to help viewers further appreciate and take notice of the beauty in life & culture that lies within our world…

…so the next time you notice something that strikes you as interesting, stop for a second, start powering on your camera, think about why it’s unique, and snap the shot before you miss it. Life is extraordinary. Embrace it. [#]

The colorful powders thrown around are stunning when captured at 2,500 frames per second.

This stuff gives me chills its so gorgeous.

As cool as that is, the footage shows off the limitations of the Phantom in it’s ability to hold highlight details. And of course I was shuddering thinking about keeping that expensive camera and lens safe in that colorful but dusty/wet environment! :-)

The film reminds me a little too much of “bullet time” in movies.  I kept tensing up expecting to see someone get kicked in the face or something explode.

You guys are ridiculous – this is stunning.  “bullettime”, “blown highlights”…. lets get serious, this is one of the most beautiful things I have seen on Vimeo.

Stunning and revealing! I’ve wanted to go to Holi for some time. This only accents that urge.

It would suck to have to change lenses during those events.

Thanks for the added feedback.  I wasn’t able to see how long the video was, but your comment let me know to expect a long video before playing.  Unfortunately your review let me down as I was expecting a long video.

In my opinion, this video was simply stunning. loved the part where the kid threw colored water at the camera.
