Planking 2.0: Self-Portraits Show Woman Conforming to Her Environment

For her project titled Learning to Love the State I Am In, photographer Sam Schubert takes planking to a new level by putting her body in bizarre positions and locations in order to “integrate” herself into the materials and environments found in Baltimore.

Not *really* about photography is it though.

Is it just me, or do these pictures have no photographic merit?

Isn’t that just called having one drink too many?

  • Fiddlesticks

    I guess we’re *not* done with planking…

  • ZG

Not really planking…does he understand what a plank is? It’s flat…and these aren’t great photos by any means.

Looks better than most of the pictures now days… killing pics with HDR is the worst.

    It’s you.

Excellent work. Was the meme planking cited in her photographic project or is that just a spin that’s been put on it to create buzz? The first picture at the top is really beautiful, with her legs arching like a ballerina’s.

Interesting project, Sam. Don’t let the negative comments get you down – keep on doing what you’re doing, exploring new ideas.

It took all of about 3 comments until someone couldn’t help but bring up HDR. Haters gonna hate.

    in a word – boring!

  • John

oops, thought my pic was for avatar!

  • ZG

It’s because HDR sucks, get with it.

Photos are ugly, and artist Valie Export already did in the 70′s… http://artnews.org/charimungar/?exi=27981

I’m disgusted by all the negative comments in here. This is somebody’s project and your shitting all over it. I bet you wouldn’t do it to their faces though. There’s nothing constructive about it, just any excuse to have a bitch.
    I’m done with Petapixel.

    Love this work! Beautiful concept!

Wow, so many uptight comments here, “boring”, “HDR sucks” – grow up people and don’t put everything into one box.

  • http://twitter.com/bayek Radek Bajenski

Ah, and as long as you don’t have anything constructive to say, just stay shut. peace!

Petapixel is a blog about photography.  While this project may have some value in a different field;  it has none, in my opinion, photographically.

There appears to be very little consideration to lighting or composition.  You might argue that 4 of the photo’s have a lead in line, but I’d guess that is coincidence really.

That is my opinion, to which I am entitled, hence the comments section.

Interesting concept in the photos. It’s light, so why are so many here being so serious.
And by the way, true HDR without radical tone mapping is what your eyes actually see. It’s the camera and the use of tone mapping in post processing that distort the original view. That’s not opinion but fact.

I like this blog since it posts new stuff, interesting, sometimes off the wall. Seriously, why are people just trolling to get a rise out of people? It’s not praised as incredibly innovative and the next big thing, it’s just interesting. Enjoy the photos, if you don’t, check 500px where all the pros go.

live a little, people, it might do you good

    This is bullshit.
