They get the job done, but I personally would be spending my money elsewhere.

At $3995 the Leica M-E Typ 240 is a bargain.
-
I highly recommend the Leica M-E (Typ 240) for anyone wanting to get into Leica.

So the M-E (Typ 240) definitely still has its place, but for my portraiture I'm now 100% going for the SL and not the M-E (Typ 240).

The LEICA M-E is the LEICA M9 in a different color, without the needless USB port and viewfinder-frame preselector lever — for a $1,500 discount from the other M9!

There are others better equipped to do that, and you should be aware that on the one hand I’m not an independent voice; as always, my loyalty as a camera tester is to Leica: If I find a problem, then I tell Leica, If I like something, then I tell everyone else!
