- PetaPixel 3/10
It’s a great conversation starter, but the limitations of the Camp Snap 8 make it a short term novelty which will likely be E-Waste before the next holiday season rolls around.
-
The Camp Snap CS-8 is a big, silly camera that has gone a little overboard on the retro kitsch, but it also undoubtedly delivers a fun time making pictures.
- WIRED 6/10
You don’t buy this camera to create “content;” you buy it to capture moments without overthinking the whole process. In that regard, the Camp Snap CS-8 is a success.
-
There are higher-quality camcorders out there, particularly with the lack of optical zoom and stabilization. But if retro charm is what you're after, the Camp Snap CS-8 is hard to beat.
-
Ultimately, the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo Cinema is a more successful implementation of a similar concept [...] But if you can't handle Fuji's $410 price point, the CS-8 is a pretty decent alternative.
-
If you want a no-frills video camera with stripped-back controls, the Camp Snap CS-8 is the way to go. Reasonably priced and ridiculously easy to use, the CS-8 records 2.7K video [...] and it features a few color profiles that make video look very nostalgic.
-
The Camp Snap CS‑8 just isn’t the tool for videographers chasing high resolution or pro features. But if you’re drawn to analog charm and the creative spontaneity of never knowing exactly just what you’ll get, it delivers exactly what it promises.
-
The Camp Snap 8 brings joy and allows me to spend less time fussing and more time living. It’s also relatively affordable given its conceptual niche.
-
I think it does an okay job of recreating the feeling of shooting with an 8 mm camera.
-
The CS-8 lets you point, shoot and enjoy the moment — plain and simple.
-
None of my Camp Snap CS-8 videos were perfect — and that’s the point. Honestly, I laughed so much going through all of the memories days later because there were so many 1-second shots of the ground and Blair Witch Project-style shaky cam footage.
-
Every mom who sees it instantly says, “Oh, I want that!”!

It’s not replacing my iPhone, it’s an additional content creation tool for me for taking more nostalgic, in the moment videos. I plan on using it for situations where the feel of a Super 8 or using one of the filters would suit the vibe better.
