Facial Recognition Tech Could Transform Event Photography

Captured is a new photography platform built to “revolutionize the event photography industry” through advanced facial recognition technology.

“Whether it’s wedding, sporting events, corporate events, concerts, Captured with its transformative and advanced facial recognition system allows users to effortlessly locate and access photographs by simply uploading a selfie,” Captured explains.

A black and gray gradient letter "A" with a star in the center is above the word "CAPTURED," written in white uppercase letters with a small star replacing the letter "A" in a black background.

Essentially, an event attendee goes to Captured’s website and uploads a selfie. The platform’s facial recognition technology analyzes the selfie and runs it against all the images captured by an event photographer.

A web interface displays a popup with the message "UPLOAD A SELFIE OF YOURSELF TO DISCOVER YOUR EVENT PHOTOS." To the right is an icon for dragging and dropping or browsing to upload a selfie. Below is a pink "Search" button. In the background, event thumbnails are partially visible.

This means that whether a person lost their bib number for something like a race or attended an event without prominent identification, like a party, wedding, or fundraiser, they can instantly find photos of themselves without sorting through them all manually.

Captured also says the platform has benefits for event photographers. They can directly upload pictures to the platform and sell them at a price they choose. “The user-friendly approach simplifies the logistics of event photography and enhances the overall experience for both organizers and their clients,” Captured promises.

So far, Captured has covered numerous events, including a race with nearly 20,000 participants. Captured’s facial recognition sorted through five million photos.

Manasi, Captured’s product lead, recalls attending a wedding where she was unable to track down photos of herself.

“Now all one has to do is create an account, upload the pictures, and leave it. A user comes on the platform and takes a selfie and within seconds, the pictures are available to download,” she says.

It’s an exciting concept that could solve one of the most frustrating aspects of event photography from both sides: Organization. If a photographer can upload all the images from an event, set their prices, and consider it done and dusted, that will save them considerable time. On the client side, the time-saving benefits are also evident. They can snap a quick selfie and find all their shots without endlessly scrolling through hundreds or thousands of photos.

As is the case with any facial recognition technology, users should carefully read Captured’s terms of use and privacy policy to ensure they feel comfortable with the platform.

Ultimately, Captured’s utility will rely on its being used by many event photographers for various events.
