Exhilarating 5K Footage Taken by Drone Racing Over the Matterhorn

A drone operator captured awe-inspiring footage of the Matterhorn summit filmed in glorious 5K.

Josh Turner flew his iFlight Chimera 7 with a DJI air unit and crossfire supporting a GoPro Hero 10 shooting at 30 FPS in 5K.

The excellent video takes viewers up the rocky ridges of the best-known and most dramatic peak in the Alps mountain range.

“I only brought 1500 mah batteries so the only way to assure that I reached the summit was to get closer,” Turner explains on his YouTube channel.

“I decided to leave my skis at the top of the lift and hike the rest of the way to the Hornli Hut with crampons and ice axe as the path was covered in snow and ice. I launched the drone from the Hornli Hut and I was able to fly the remaining 4000ft (1,200m) vertical and 1 mile (1.6km) distance to the summit and surf down the ridgeline.

“It was extremely windy and the wind just got stronger as I neared the summit but the Chimera 7 performed very well.”

Viewers were left astonished that Turner made the video with only a 1500 mah battery.

“The most amazing thing of this video is, that you had the balls to do it with just a 1500 mah battery,” writes one commenter.

Turner explains that he shot the footage while visiting Switzerland for a month in 2022.

“I’ve wanted to try this flight for a while,” he explains. “The video was shot on a GoPro Hero 10 in 5K 30 and stabilized in Realsteadygo.”

Turner is no stranger to creating stunning FPV drone videos, regularly updating his YouTube page with dizzying videos filmed in a variety of exotic locations.

The American drone operator has published flying videos from Patagonia, Massachusetts, and Madeira Island off the coast of Portugal.
