Datacolor has announced an expansion to its Spyder Checkr product line with the addition of the new Spyder Checkr Photo, a color reference tool that provides a fast, easy way to ensure accurate and consistent color from the first shot captured.

Datacolor calls itself the global leader in color management solutions and provides software, instruments, and services to assure accurate color of materials and photos and has been providing this service for more than 50 years.

The new and improved Spyder Checkr Photo allows creatives to automatically create hue, saturation, and luminance presets to use with their photo editing software (like Adobe Lightroom) which will help streamline their post-production workflows while ensuring color accuracy and consistency across multiple cameras, lenses and sensor combinations.

The Spyder Checkr Photo boasts the company’s “most comprehensive” collection of color targets that includes 62 target patches in four interchangeable cards for all types of photography. This includes expanded skin tones for portraits, large targets for easy white/grey balancing, a 24-step grey scale for perfect exposures, and instant dynamic range check. The entire system comes secured in a compact and durable/rugged case that can fit in nearly any camera bag or pocket to bring along to any location. The small size makes it easy to accommodate in any gear bag, or users can take advantage of the included lanyard to simply hang over their shoulder or neck while on location and in the studio.

According to the company, the innovative methods of color target development reflects Datacolor’s commitment to color accuracy. This includes the selection of premium papers that conform to ISO 9706 Standards, meeting exacting requirements for age-resistance, and high-quality inks that offer long-lasting color integrity.

“Photographers have long been asking for more matte color targets, that limit reflectivity for more precise color. We’re happy to say that we’ve heard you, and through our new Checkr-Matte printing system, we’re able to provide ultra-matte targets for unsurpassed color accuracy regardless of lighting conditions,” Casey Krugman, the Product Manager and Consumer Solutions for Datacolor, says.

The new Spyder Checkr Photo is available starting today for $100 from Datacolor as well as other authorized retailers.
