Twitter Account ‘One Perfect Shot’ is Being Turned Into a Series for HBO Max

Cinematography and photo nerds rejoice: One Perfect Shot—the popular Twitter account that distills movies down into a single ‘perfect’ frame—is being adapted into a docuseries for the streaming service HBO Max that promises to be something pretty special.

We first wrote about One Perfect Shot all the way back in 2014. The Twitter account, already popular back then, has kept growing in the years since, amassing a dedicated following of over 600,000 film and composition nerds who love to see great Directors and DPs praised for their impressive work behind the camera.

Over the years, One Perfect Shot has shared images from Indiana Jones, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Truman Show, and Psycho, and even dipped its toes into television with frames from Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad, among many others:

The cult following that they’ve acquired is now paying off, as Warner Media has just announced that the idea will be transformed into a docuseries produced and narrated by Oscar nominee and Emmy Award winner Ava DuVernay. Like the Twitter account, each episode will feature a single shot. Unlike the Twitter account, the show promises to go into extreme detail, letting the director guide viewers through the shot using augmented reality techniques.

“Each episode arms one acclaimed director with an arsenal of visual tools to pull back the curtain on their most iconic shots. Using state of the art technology, the directors will literally enter each shot, walking through the scene in 360 moments that allow viewers to join an immersive exploration of moviemaking,” reads the press release. “Filmmakers will share their obstacles, challenges, lessons and triumphs as they detail how they created their crowning cinematic achievements.”

The series promises to be a deep-dive on the art of directing and a fascinating peek inside the thought process that went into some of the most iconic shots in the history of filmmaking. If you’re at all interested in imagery—and we would guess that you are—you’ll want to keep an eye out for this one.

The show was only just now green lit, so no timeline has been given, but we hope to see the show pop up on the HBO Max streaming service sometime in 2021.
