DJI Drone Cameras Compared: Spark, Mavic, and Phantom

DJI is a primary choice in the consumer drone market at the moment, but which of their popular options should you choose? This 4-minute video compares the camera quality of the DJI Spark, Mavic Pro, and the Phantom 4 Pro.

Tech reviewer Billy Kyle takes some demo footage by flying the three drones over the same scenery. The first 2 minutes of his video show the resulting video side-by-side, all using auto exposure and ‘sunny’ white balance.

Kyle notes that the footage from the Mavic and the Spark is very similar in quality, and whilst the color profile is quite different, that can easily be changed in post. The difference between the Spark and the Phantom 4 Pro is night and day, he says.

A big benefit of both the Mavic and Phantom 4 Pro over the Spark is that they not only shoot in 4K, but also allow full control over color profiles and style settings. With the Spark you’re basically restricted to what it is set to out of the box.

Obviously the big trade-off is in portability, which the Spark wins hands-down. The Phantom 4 Pro is a great option if you’re not traveling with your drone, but the Mavic Pro is a sweet spot in terms of quality and flexibility with a small profile.
