Photographer Finds Unusual Creatures in the Depths of Oceans
It’s often said that we know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the depths of our oceans. These astonishing photos by underwater photographer Alexander Semenov show just how crazy and weird things get beneath the waves.
“My key specialism is scientific macrophotography in natural environments,” says Semenov. “This practice makes it possible to observe animals that cannot be properly studied under laboratory conditions, such as soft-bodied planktonic organisms or stationary life forms living on the sea floor.
“My personal goal is to study underwater life through camera lenses and to boost people’s interest in marine biology.”
Semenov’s images do just that. They bring light to the animals most people will never see or experience in their entire lives.
With incredibly captivating images like these, it is no surprise that Semenov has collaborated with organisations such as National Geographic and the BBC.
Semenov sums up his passion nicely: “I love what I do, and I love the sea.”
