GekkoPod Camera Mount Uses Flexible Legs to Latch Onto Anything

Zuckerim Inc. has launched a Kickstarted campaign to fund their new product, the GekkoPod. Modeling its design off of gekko feet, the GekkoPod aims to be a flexible phone and camera mount for all of your favorite devices. Similar to JOBY’s GorillaPod, the GekkoPod serves as a nifty little solution for photographers on the move. However, Zuckerim’s product may have a few advantages over the competition.

The GekkoPod avoids using a bulky ball structure and instead opts for a flexible and durable body that the company says “can be contorted and adjusted to hold smartphones, pocket cameras, and even GoPros just about anywhere”. The promotional video showcases the quadruped device supporting up to 11 lbs (5 kg) of weight, and withstanding the heat of a metal pot with boiling water.

The device itself weighs 50 grams (1.7 ounces) and can be easily secured onto different devices using the included 1/4-20” mount. A BallHead with 360-degree panorama oration and a 90-degree tilt knob is also available. In comparison, JOBY’s GorillaPod that supports 11 lbs (5 kg) of weight costs $100 and weighs 17.6 ounces (that’s ten times as heavy).

If you are interested in the GekkoPod and supporting Zuckerim Inc.’s latest endeavor, you can head over to their KickStarter campaign to take a closer look. Early backers will be able to pick up a unit for $12. A larger $24 donation will include the GekkoPod and an adjustable BallHead as previously mentioned. The project’s fundraising goal is $15,000.
