This is Now Shows Live Views of Major Cities Through Instagram Photos

Instagram is a photo sharing service based around instant photo sharing and viewing, so why not take advantage of its real-time nature for gauging the “pulse” of a city?

This is Now is an awesome new website that shows you a live view of the world through the eyes of Instagram users.

The service currently monitors 9 major cities around the world: Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, San Paulo, London, Stockholm, Paris, Tokyo, and Sydney. Here’s what the home screen looks like:

Click on any of them, and you’ll be taken to a constantly updated page that shows new Instagram images in real-time as they’re captured in that city.

Selecting any photograph takes you to its individual page on Instagram’s website.

The project is the brainchild of Marcio Puga, Mauricio Massaia and Per Thoresson, who write,

The This is Now project is a visual composition which uses real-time updates from the ever popular Instagram application based on users’ geotag locations. The tool streams photos instantly as soon as they are uploaded on Instagram and captures a city’s movement, in a fluid story.

In addition to real-time photos, the app also collects and displays real time stats showing how teach city’s page is being enjoyed. Simply click the “What is this?” link in the upper left:
