Tourist Captures the Exact Moment Chile’s Calbuco Volcano Erupts

When the Calbuco volcano in southern Chile erupted earlier this week, a number of photographers in the region pulled out their cameras and shot photos and videos of what was going on for the world to see. One particular tourist, on the other hand, managed to snag something quite special: footage of the exact moment the eruption occurred.

The 36-second clip that surfaced online shows that the man was hiking in Chile’s Llanquihue National Reserve and marveling at the beautiful landscape and waterfalls. 20 seconds in, as the man is pointing his camera at Calbuco in the background, the eruption occurs.

“Wow,” the man says. He quickly puts the camera away, and the video ends. The anonymous tourist has since shared his footage with the world through media outlets in Chile.
