Wet Plate Collodion Portraits of Barbie Dolls

Miranda.

Barbie Blad” by photographer Hamid Blad is a series of portraits that mixes the old and the new. The oldness is contributed by the fact that they are created using the 19th-century collodion process, while the newness is due to the fact that each portrait is of a Barbie doll.

The Paris-based photographer photographed the toy figures using a UV light to make them look a little more human, styled the dolls’ hair, applied some “skin products” to the bodies, and then framed them in order to focus attention onto the details of the faces. He says that his goal was to bring them to life with his pictures.
