Facebook Celebrates Tenth Anniversary by Making You a Personal ‘Look Back’ Video

Facebook turned 10 years old today, and the social network is trying its best to get you misty eyed in celebration. If you head over to this link, Facebook will create a personalized video that takes you on a journey from the moment you first joined until today.

The video will rehash some of your most popular posts and photos, many of which we’d bet you’ve completely forgotten about.

In addition to providing you with your very own ‘oh-my-goodness-did-i-really-look-like-that?!” experience, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also decided to say a few words to mark the occasion. Here’s a snippet from his 10th Anniversary blog post:

When I reflect on the last 10 years, one question I ask myself is: why were we the ones to build this? We were just students. We had way fewer resources than big companies. If they had focused on this problem, they could have done it.

The only answer I can think of is: we just cared more… We just cared more about connecting the world than anyone else. And we still do today.

Haha… Was seeing these all over Facebook. Thought it was neat, till I clicked over to get mine.

Headline Text: “Thank you … 10 years ago people started using Facebook to share their biggest moments. Here are some of yours.”

Below…. I see 6 random static pictures from my albums. No video.

Oh well! Maybe I’ll have better luck on the next novelty item they release.

I don’t know why, but I feel VERY nostalgic when watching these videos of people I don’t even know! Feels kinda weird!

I did the same thing (actually, I wanted to repost with a witty comment, shame on me) and lost my video. Do a search of yahoo and you’ll find a few threads of MANY people who lost their video. I was able to retrieve mine. HOpefully you fine an answer that helps you, too. :) Good luck.

How were you able to retrieve yours? Did you just wait it out and it came back?

I had to look through the diske cache on my computer. I’m using firefox, so after installing the add-on CACHE VIEWER, I just typed into the address bar about:cache

Once there, I was able to search https://lookback and found it. It’s over 1million bytes, so that narrowed down which files to try. It was there. If you viewed it on your computer, it’s got to be there. You just need to somehow get into your cache.

Same here. I wonder why some few of us don’t seem to get the video.
Feels a little like being Charlie Brown on Halloween…

Go into your browser (IE, firefox, google chrome) cache and search for it. I found mine in my firefox cache after losing it. So sad, and then so happy

Same here. I googled it and there is evidently a bug. Sad.

So is this “video” auto-created by everyone clicking on that link from a Facebook logged-in computer? Given the boiler plate text that comes with 99% of those I’ve seen, that would seem to be the case.

I’ve flagged every single one I’ve seen as spam and reported them to Facebook as such. Don’t seem to be seeing them any more…
