Iran’s Supreme Leader Joins Instagram

Guess who one of the newest members on Instagram is? Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran. His new account has the handle @khamenei_ir, the same as his surprisingly active Twitter account.

So far, the supreme ruler’s account boasts 6 photographs and nearly 1,000 followers. The images have had retro photos applied to them, but none of them were shot by Khamenei himself (the account is presumably run by a member of his staff).

Comments left in response to his first posted photo range from friendly blessings to death wishes:

Given that Apple obediently refuses to export its products to that Iran, we can assume that Khamenei is one person who was happy about Instagram’s expansion into Android back in April.

You can check out the account and photographs here.

I personally don’t see anything’s wrong with it. anyone can join any social media, and khamenei is not the first religious figure doing it, there are many others. Dalai Lama for an example.

Well, I plan to send him as much offensive (you know – everyday, civilized, modern world stuff) as possible.

Seriously? you are comparing this asshole to the Dalai Lama? Even making that comparaison is offensive no only to the Dalai Lama and his followers, but also to the 60+ Million iranian’s who are opressed by this old, opium addicted piece of you know what.
