Use a Nail and Clothespin to Determine Placement When Hanging Photos

Michele over at The Scrap Shoppe offers this handy trick for hanging picture frames: hammer a nail through a clothespin and use it to determine nail placement. Simply hang the picture on the clothespin nail, figure out where you want to place the frame, and then push the clothespin into the wall to make a small indent. Voila! Target acquired.

P.S. Last month we shared a similar trick that uses toothpaste.

Such a great tip : ) Thank you!

Why does it have to be a clothes pin? Any stick would do, especially a longer one for big pictures. The other tip I have read is to put a dab of toothpaste where the nail would go, then if you don’t like the first attempt, you can wipe the spot off instead of having a dent / hole in the wrong spot.

I first heard this tip using a wooden ruler and thumbtack.  It has longer reach and a better handle.

Anyway, this tip is awesome when you’re trying to get your pictures to line up exactly.

This is actually a great use of paint stir sticks you can get for free from home improvement stores, too…
