What 14fps Looks and Sounds Like on the Canon 1D X

Canon’s new 1D X can shoot full frame 18-megapixel JPEGs at a whopping 14 frames per second with mirror-lockup. Drop down to 12fps, and you can shoot RAW images while continuously tracking the subject using AI Servo mode. Here are a couple videos that give you a feel for what 14fps on the 1D X is like.

Where can I get a 1TB card to go with this

Couldn’t care less how it looks/sounds. I mean: What’s YOUR big gain after watching those videos?

    1) Walk in to government press conference with new Canon 1D X.
    2) Give a narly glare to journalist next to you who is only using a Canon 1D MK 3
    3) Important government figure comes out to make a speech.
    4) Aim Canon 1D X at important government figures head
    5) Forget that 14FPS JPG mode is enabled
    6) Fire away
    7) Wake up in hospital with 3rd degree Tazer burns and dislocated shoulder
    8) Have huge smile on your face knowing that your 1D X was mistaken for a submachine gun

    ^^^ Priceless :D

50,000 per hour. Faster shutter failure. Cool though.

Wow, glad it has 400,000 shutter life-cycle on it. I can see people burning through their cameras.

Granted, for sequence shots, I would love to see this in action.

Four more frames per second and they can call it “Super-8 mode.”

using this camera at 14 fps will make your pe*is 50% longer.

  • Hoffstriker

Am I mistaken, or is there a 50 frame buffer?

I read somewhere that its 14fps jpeg in mirror lock up mode only… wouldnt that mean no AF tracking during the burst?

You’re right, I missed that fact. Updated the post, thanks!

The tape’s there to ensure no one removes the memory card, I heard from a friend at the event that Canon didn’t let anyone take home images made by the camera.

A guest who should remain nameless for trolling complaints. Obviously, not the sites target market.

that sound you hear is the mirror moving up and down if it was locked up there would be no noise.

Ahhh! I’ve been shot! Help me!

  • http://twitter.com/Transhawn Tran-Shawn Yu

please read the actual press release, 14fps only when mlu and jpeg.  the shutter still makes noise, or maybe the video isnt 14fps.

Since it has 2 CF slots, I use 2 32GB cards in mine, works pretty damn good.

  • Bill

More if you choose to shoot lower than RAW, not sure you would want to, but it’s an option.
I shoot Raw on mine, never hit the buffer, but then I don’t shoot continuously for several seconds all that often.

The 14 fps rate is only active once you enable it. Out of the box, it is not active, you have to go through the menu and select it, then it is available in your speed selection.
You can also set the max fps rate as well as the max burst rate in the settings menu.
