Remember There Are Real People on the Other Side of Those Pixels

When viewing other people’s photographs online, more often than not there’s a way to comment and share your thoughts. While photo-sharing sites seem to have nicer commenters than a site like YouTube, there are still plenty of people who seem intent on putting people down and filling the Interwebs with vitriol. If that’s you, then here’s a video you definitely need to see.

It’s an excerpt from the same book as another awesome video we shared a while back, “What’s obvious to you may be amazing to others.”

I hate thows people who don’t like something if they think they could of done it better or pick at it when it is better than they could do.

can’t we just look at nice pictures and be happy about them, now who/how they were taken.

    OMG OVEREXPOSURED SKYS!

Aaaawwhh :) About time someone made something like this, good work. Now let’s just hope that the people watching it will actually care and do something about their online behaviour.

Most people who work in call centres or internet based customer service as well as people on forums will have experienced this kind of abuse. It should be made compulsory for everyone to be shown these films, then if they still want to be mean to annonymous people online or by telphone they wont have any excuses for their childish and cruel behaviour when they are prosecuted.

Because you NEED to be able to do it to critique it…
    That is so bloody stupid.

If people want to live in their delusional world where what they do is perfect then they shouldn’t post it on the internet. And if they absolutely want to, turn off the comments.

I think we need to remember the difference between constructive criticism and negatively criticizing someone else’s work out of envy or personally attacking someone through their work.

I do agree that some photographers have delusions of grandeur and of being a professional when they’ve only just bought their first DSLR and got a lucky couple of shots on the first try but there are also other people like myself who love to hear constructive comments about my work because how else will I improve my skill set if not hearing from other people in the field.
