How I Documented the Making of a Wedding Dress

Having been a wedding photographer for the past fifteen years, I’ve seen my fair share of white wedding dresses, but before focusing on weddings, I was fortunate enough to gain a little experience in the fashion industry, shooting for magazines, working backstage at fashion shows, and covering both London and Paris Fashion Weeks.

After Being Left at the Altar, Bride Turns Heartbreak Into an Epic ‘Trash the Dress’ Photo Shoot

Less than a week before Shelby Swink's wedding in November 2014, her fiancé sat her down, told her he did not love her, and just like that, the wedding was off. As she mourned the abrupt end of her four-year relationship, the idea of a "trash the dress" photo shoot came up. Swink decided that it would be the perfect way for her to mark the occasion and let go of the pain, so she enlisted the help of photographer Elizabeth Hoard to set the photo shoot in motion.

Couple Travels 135,000 Miles Over 5 Years for Wedding Dress Portraits

Photographer Jeff Salvage and his wife Jennifer got married back in 2008 near a volcano crater on Easter Island. While they were there, Salvage had his new wife wear her wedding dress for three photo shoots in various locations and at various times. Those shoots sparked a photo project idea that would take the two on an adventure around the world.

Since 2008, the Salvages have traveled over 135,000 miles to countries all over the world. At each location, Jeff shoots a portrait of Jennifer wearing her dress.
