The hobbyist LEGO designer who goes by Pandis Pandus (and who previously created a 1914 Ur-Leica LEGO camera) is back with an even more elaborate concept kit. It's a 1950 Leica IIIf LEGO camera that comes complete with a box, display stand, lens, finder, and caps.
The Leica IIIf is one of the last screw mount Leica cameras produced in the late 50’s alongside the Leica IIIg. The IIIf holds a special place amongst Leica screw mount users because it was, for its time, the most advanced screw mount camera that Leica produced that kept the values and ideas Oskar Barnack set out to create with his prototype “Ur-Leica” in 1914.
Maximilian Heinrich of Analog Insights recently inherited an 85-year-old Leica camera and handed it off to his friend Jules for repair and restoration. This 15-minute video is about the camera's journey from nearly being passed on to a camera store to being brought back to form.
