Reviewer Consensus

Strong

The Vivo X80 Pro is a premium, high-performance smartphone that excels in photography and display quality, though it struggles with software bloat and inconsistent thermal management. While it delivers a flagship-tier experience with fast charging and a top-tier ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, the device remains a minor iteration over its predecessor that some find difficult to justify at its high price point.

What the Reviewers Say

All 29 expert reviews, weighted into the PixelMeter score.

  • PetaPixel 7/10

The Vivo X80 Pro is to Vivo what an “S” device is to Apple iPhones; it brings modest improvements in some areas, but otherwise retains a vast majority of the build and software features.

The vivo X80 Pro is the best of the X70 Pro Plus with 2022 flagship specs. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's still a welcome upgrade over its already great predecessor.

Despite being a good phone, the Vivo X80 Pro is hard to recommend. It has a good-looking screen, powerful processor and fast charging, but alternatives from Samsung and Apple have better cameras, while the flagships from Motorola and Google offer better value for money.

I personally like the X80 Pro's camera better than the S22 Ultra or the iPhone 13 Pro Max's camera, but it's just not that much better, if at all, than the X70 Pro Plus's camera.

In fact, the Vivo X series has never been cheap, so buying the X80 Pro depends on whether you are interested in its powerful camera system or not.

There are a few drawbacks though, like the lacking of expandable storage, and its curved display – at least to some, but other than that, definitely this can be your ultimate flagship smartphone.

The X80 Pro is really fun. It's a great camera platform that I've been leaning on heavy for the production of my videos, but it's also a very well-rounded premium tier pocket computer.

[T]he only ones that don't overheat playing demanding games for long periods are the fan cooled phones like Red Magic 7 and Red Magic 7 Pro, they're the only ones, very hot chipset from Qualcomm.

So so far, much like with last year's phone, enjoyment and usefulness with the Vivo X80 Pro boils down to some fundamental benefits. Stabilization and smooth movement do elevate the video recording, even if it's not actually being done by the gimbal most of the time.
