- PetaPixel 6/10
The thing is, GoPro is struggling as a company, and they need a hugely popular mass-market product. This is the opposite of that.
-
The MISSION 1 PRO ILS is an interesting camera that, like any camera, has its positive and negative aspects. It’s great to finally have an interchangeable-lens GoPro camera.
- WIRED 8/10
It isn't perfect—in fact, it has some serious shortcomings—but this initial ILS camera does what it is meant to do quite well and, with incremental improvements, could become a truly great, tiny 8K video powerhouse.
-
The GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS feels like a cross between an action camera and a mirrorless camera. The small size, stabilization, and 8K open gate are key perks that create a novel filmmaking tool.
-
The GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS is a tiny, interchangeable lens powerhouse for slow-motion video. It asks more of creators than mainstream autofocus options do, but delivers footage that action cameras can't match.
-
The Mission 1 Pro ILS is a fascinating first step into interchangeable lenses for GoPro, pairing its excellent 1-inch sensor with Micro Four Thirds flexibility.
- Engadget 8.2/10
For now, the ILS is a camera with great potential and a learning curve. It's asking GoPro fans to study up and for experienced filmmakers to make sacrifices.
- CNET 8/10
Truly cinematic footage from something that fits in your pocket? GoPro has itself a winner.
-
The GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS is an awesome camera, but you need to take the time to learn its quirks and gain the skills necessary to get the most out of it.
-
There are also those who have expressed dislike for it "because." But for me, the GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS is one of the most genuinely fascinating cameras I've used in a great many years. It's got me experimenting again and it's got me excited for cinematography again.
-
The GoPro Mission 1 Pro ILS is a chimera of a camera, and it should have been kept in the lab from which it spawned. It’s the first action camera of its kind with swappable third-party lenses, and as cool as that may sound, it’s worse than the sum of its parts.
-
I think it's a cool concept and I hope they continue to improve with this camera and future cameras because the idea of really small cameras that are really really powerful get me pretty excited.
-
It's a camera nerds camera. If you like slow motion, if you like tinkering, if you like vintage lenses, if you like manual focus, or at least can put up with it, then it's super duper fun.
