A couple of years ago, adventure photographer and Visit Austria creator Peter Maier captured a stunning rainstorm timelapse titled ‘Tsunami from Heaven’ that recently went went viral online. The full piece, just 52 seconds long, is nevertheless mesmerizing to behold.
Maier’s short timelapse needs very little introduction—just a large, high-resolution display and some headphones if you have them.
It was captured almost about two and a half years ago, in June of 2018, from the Alpengasthof Bergfried hotel in Carinthia, Austria, and shows a sudden cloudburst (AKA microburst or downburst) soaking an area around Lake Millstatt. For some reason, the video—which has acquired over 20 million views in the past two years—is taking off again in 2020… but you won’t hear us complaining.
Lights down, full screen, and headphones on for the best possible experience.
