DEDPXL: A New Educational Photography Resource by Zack Arias

DEDPXL

Almost a year after Zack Arias first announced that he was working on an educational project called DEDPXL (pronounced dead pixel), the project has gone live on the web and is ready for you take a look at.

Meant to be an educational resource for the photography community, it seems to be off to a strong start. DEDPXL’s tag line is ‘More Signal. Less Noise’ and to that effect, Arias is including a little bit of everything in there — all of it meant to help you become a better photographer.

Combining new endeavors with some of Arias’ previous ones, DEDPXL features a Q&A section based off his popular and informative Tumblr and book, an assignment section where Arias will give out long and short term projects for readers to work on, a critique section and a few grab-bag categories that will likely become more focused as time goes on.

Here are the first Q&A and Assignment episodes Arias has posted, just so you can get a taste of what the site is like:

Another main feature on DEDPXL is the store, which features various videos, books and even t-shirts that Arias is selling to help keep the site up and running beyond what the current sponsors provide. I assume as time goes on, more content will fill the store, making it a nice one-stop-shop for guides, tutorials and other goodies.

At this point in time, there’s honestly not much to base an opinion of the site off of. If done correctly, I have no doubt Arias’ knowledge and passion for photography will shine through and make for a great educational resource for the photo community. All it needs to do is grab a strong initial audience to keep the sponsorships going, and it seems DEDPXL is off to a great start in that department.

Head on over to DEDPXL, take a look around, check out some of the articles that are already up, and let us know what you think in the comments.
