Mark Newson and Jony Ive Talk About the One-of-a-Kind Leica M (RED) Camera

We’ve heard a lot about the Leica M (RED) edition created by design gurus Mark Newson and Jony Ive, but up until now it’s all been press release information. Now, we have a video in which both Newson and Ive talk a little bit about the creations they’ve put together for the upcoming Sotheby’s (RED) auction on November 23rd, including a section about the aforementioned camera.

When we first published the press photos of the (RED) camera, response was mixed with a slant towards the negative. People weren’t thrilled with the very Apple-esque aluminum camera, but both Ive and Newson seem to be quite happy with what they’ve come up with, especially emphasizing the amazing build quality of the final product.

Here’s another look at those aforementioned press pics:

The video above (which we’ve coded to start right at the part about the camera) gives you a little bit of insight into how they came up with the specific design for the one-of-a-kind Leica, while also talking about the spirit behind the auction.

Because, really, this isn’t about creating a fancy camera, but rather selling a fancy camera and donating a healthy sum of money to a good cause.
