Paper-Kit Helps You Turn Portrait Photos Into 3D Paper Heads

If you’re looking for a fun and cheap gag gift that’s somewhat photography related, check out Paper-Kit. It’s a simple, and easy-to-use web app that lets you turn your portrait photos (probably better described as mug shots) into nifty 3D heads that you print, cut, and assemble yourself.

The main thing you’ll need to do is photograph a head from three different angles: one from the front and two from the sides. You then upload those photos into the app:

It’ll then turn those photographs into a digital 3D model, which you can then print out as a PDF kit for €2 (~$2.60). The model is broken down into a large number of small shapes that you’ll need to cut out and put together:

The resulting head is pretty neat-looking (and slightly creepy):

You can get started with your paper head photo print by visiting the Paper-Kit website.

Thanks for sending in the tip, Stéphane!

Am i the only one who see this being used by inmates to facilitate their escape?

  • Roy

Nope. Escape from Alcatraz was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this. Clint Eastwood should do one of these.

Oh my gosh, this is wonderful. It reminds me of an old set of photographs I saw on Flick a few years ago. I’ve always wanted to try it out! –

From what I read on the website, it used to be free but now costs 2 dollars.

Should have been 2 dollars since the beginning, now it looks like a money grab. There are no free lunches of course, but the economics of “free” dictate that ANY price you put on something after it being free, will ALWAYS be a ripoff.

can you make it big enough to wear? Like the link that @Samcornwell:disqus gave? We have these giant heads at our UNLV basketball games.
