The Cincinnati Public Library Lets You Use DSLRs and Studio Equipment for Free

As books are easier to buy and borrow in digital forms, public libraries are evolving and experimenting with new ways to stay relevant. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has one awesome idea for how to do so: the main branch of the library in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, features a makerspace that provides free access to tools for creative people -- equipment that includes DSLRs and photo studio gear.

Google is Loaning Out Its Trekker Street View Camera Backpacks

Google has had no issues expanding street view to some pretty amazing places. Thanks in large part to the company's trekker backpacks, we can now visit the Grand Canyon, explore Central Park and check out the view from the world's tallest peaks.

But the company isn't above asking others to help expand the "off-road" street view repertoire, and so Google is announcing plans to loan out those expensive Trekkers to worthy third party organizations.

Last week we reported on a dispute between photographer Jonathan Kent and The Telegraph over the newspaper's "use first and ask/pay later" policy. After contacting the paper over an image of his that was used without permission, Kent received a response from picture editor Matthew Fearn, who informed him stating that their policy is standard and due to the "ever-shifting nature of news". In response, Kent wrote up a tongue-in-cheek letter likening the paper's actions to borrowing a car for a joyride and paying for the use afterward.
