Climate Change-Themed Image Wins the 2022 Creative Photo Awards
The international festival of visual arts, the Siena Awards, has announced the winners of its Creative Photo Awards 2022, which celebrates the best of artistic and contemporary photography.
The Creative Photo Awards are one of several competitions hosted by the Siena Awards and features winners across 17 categories. Photographers from 128 countries submitted their entries and competed for the coveted Photographer of the Year title.
Each winning category photo will be displayed at the Siena Awards Festival, held in the Tuscan city from October 1st to November 20th, 2022, alongside successful entries from Siena International Photo Awards and the Drone Photo Awards.
Photographer of the Year 2022
André Boto’s photo, titled “The False Illusion,” shown above earned the title of the overall winner of the contest. The photo was shot in Montijo, Portugal, with the intention of shining a spotlight on the global issue of pollution — a problem that is often underestimated even though it affects everyone on the planet.

Abstract
Macedonian photographer Ana Joveva was crowned the winner of the Abstract category with her image “Motherhood,” Shot in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Food & Beverage
With the invitation to use fresh and genuine products instead of canned ones, Bulgarian photographer Yuliy Vasilev’s photo “Fish, You Can!” won in this food-themed category.
Conceptual
Tania Barrenetxea, from Spain, expressed her feelings of anxiety and the all-consuming feeling of emotional overwhelm in her photo “Swallow,” which won in the Conceptual category.
Nature & Landscape
Chinese photographer Fenqiang (Frank) Liu won the Nature & Landscape category with “Secret Garden,” a photo taken in Kraft Azalea Garden, Florida, of a white heron taking flight from an oak tree.
Nudes
Du Yi, from China, succeeded in the Nudes category with the “playful” and “ironic” photo, “The Death of Marat.”
Wedding
The winning photo, “Arrivo della Sposa,” by Italian photographer Damiano Salvadori captures the range of emotions felt by the groom as he stands waiting for his future wife to walk down the aisle.
Architecture
Palestinian photographer Ahmad Kaddourah won the Architecture category with his photo, entitled “White Door.” The concept of the image was to illustrate the universal symbol of entry and exit in all cultures of the world.
Animals/Pets
Pedro Jarque Krebs was awarded first place in the Animals/Pets category for the third consecutive year, this time with a photo dedicated to a small gorilla born at the Madrid Zoo.
Portraiture
Iranian photographer Alireza Sahebi’s “Aram” was the winning photo in the Portrait category. The image was shot with the goal of focusing the gaze on the subject’s face through some precautions, such as removing clothes from the body, emphasizing freckles, and using green as a symbol of nature.
Still Life
Budi Gunawan’s, from Indonesia, winning photo “Flowers and Bird” shows a sunbird caught in flight on a vase full of flowers, symbolizing the beauty of nature.
Experimental
In the Experimental category, Australian photographer Jo Howell succeeded with the winning entry, “Just in Time. The photo shows an image with “evident geometric connotations that enhances the impressive ability of the ants for social interaction.”
Open Theme
The photo, entitled “Gregory’s Gone,” by German photographer Horst Kistner was awarded the winning title of the Open theme. The image is a dedication to the meeting between Edward Hopper and Gregory Crewdson, who is one of Kistner’s favorite photographers.
Beauty
Du Yi, who was also the winner in the Nudes category, also took home the winning title of Beauty with a photo “Heart-shaped Wing.”
Fashion
Iranian photographer Adolfazi Jafarian, passionate about black and white portraits, won the Fashion category with “Magical Girl.”
Music
“The Way of the Erhu” is a self-portrait by dutch photographer Cheraine Collette. She won the category with a photo that features the Erhu, a traditional Mongolian string instrument.
Product
French photographer Karine Faby’s close-up of the bodywork and front wheel of a BMW i9, titled “i8 Wheel” won the Product category.
