Photo Mechanic 6 Up to 300% Faster, Brings New UI and Features

Camera Bits has released Photo Mechanic 6, the latest major version of the photo ingesting, tagging, and browsing tool that’s designed to speed up photographers’ workflows.

Photo Mechanic is now a 64-bit application, which improves caching of photos and runs well on both Windows and macOS. The new software is up to 2-3 times faster than Photo Mechanic 5 for viewing and culling photos.

The user interface has been streamlined based on user feedback. Commonly-used gadgets are put together, providing a more compact and intuitive experience.

A new feature in Photo Mechanic 6 is Ingest from Selection, which allows you to ingest only selected photos from a plugged-in memory card instead of all the photos from the entire card.

Other new features and improvements found in version 6 include reverse GPS lookup (city, state, country are automatically inserted into metadata), improved slide show (transitions, tagging, color classing, starring), better fullscreen mode, hot codes and code replacement (all codes are evaluated at once when pasting text with Code Replacements), a better crop tool (soft crops and rotations on JPG exports with previews), and uploading to Facebook.

Photo Mechanic 6 costs $139 for a new users, and there’s a 30-day free trial. Existing customers can upgrade to version 6 for $89.
