Sigma Joins the Mirrorless Wars with the sd Quattro and sd Quattro H

Sigma today dropped a surprise bomb on the camera industry by announcing a pair of formidable mirrorless cameras. While the DP Quattro packed Sigma's Foveon sensors, the fixed lenses and unwieldy designs weren't popular among photographers.

The sd Quattro and sd Quattro H boast large Foveon Quattro sensors behind a Sigma SA lens mount, allowing photographers to use Sigma's lineup of Global Vision lenses.

SanDisk Acquired by Western Digital for $19 Billion

SanDisk just succeeded in its mission to get bought out. Hard drive maker Western Digital announced today that it has agreed to acquire SanDisk in a deal worth about $19 billion in cash and stock. If all goes well, the deal will close in the third quarter or 2016.

SanDisk Announces Huge Capacity 128GB microSD Card

Yesterday, SanDisk unveiled the newest addition to its Secure Digital memory card lineup: a 128GB microSDXC card that effectively doubles the storage capabilities of the current generation of cards.

And while the practicality of that much storage on a microSD card isn't overly exciting for most photographers, there are certainly some scenarios where this will be beneficial.

Eye-Fi Mobi Beams Photos from Camera to Phone or Tablet Instantly

Eye-Fi has offered the ability to wirelessly transmits photos from a camera to another device for quite a while now, but there was a downside: you were required to connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot to do so (with the exception of the Eye-Fi X2). This presented a challenge to photographers shooting on location where a Wi-Fi hotspot may not have been readily available.

Eye-Fi has come forth with their new "Eye-Fi Mobi" product, which streamlines the process of sending images to a mobile device.

Five Hours of Airplane Landings Captured in Thirty Seconds

Check out this curious 25-second time-lapse/composite video that shows every airplane that landed at San Diego International Airport on Black Friday a week ago between 10:30am and 3pm. The giant planes whiz by overhead as if they're part of a fighter jet squadron heading off to battle -- not something you'd expect to see with commercial planes at an airport. It was created by photography and film professor Cy Kuckenbaker.
