Using the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone, scientists are once again bringing together the worlds of Science and Photography to do some amazing work.

Check out this trippy video showing New York City sidewalks in Matrix-style "bullet time." It was created by filmmaker Paul Trillo, who partnered up with Microsoft to create a special camera rig consisting of 50 individual Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphones mounted to an arc.

What's the best way to entice the professional photography market to buy into your device? Insult them of course! At least that seems to be Nokia's strategy in its latest Lumia 1020 Ad, "Goodbye DSLR, Hello Lumia 1020."

When DxOMark tests out the quality of mobile phone cameras, they usually classify and rank them as such. There's a whole mobile section to the site where one can compare different smartphone cameras using a different scoring system.

The thing is, the Lumia 1020 is no typical smartphone. Nokia has touted it as a camera first, and it seems DxOMark was listening. When they put the Lumia 1020 through its paces, they tested it as a full-fledged camera. And it didn't perform half bad.

When Nokia announced that the new Lumia 1520 and the current Lumia 1020 would both soon have DNG Raw capabilities, the response was polarized -- half of the smartphone photo community was excited, the other half skeptical. Would these files really give you the latitude that RAW is known for? Or would they just be a massive waste of hard drive space.

Earlier today, Nokia let fly a slew of announcements at their Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi. And, as you might expect from the people that brought you the 41-megapixel PureView smartphone camera, a few of them have to do with pushing mobile photography to the next level.

As the battle for cameraphone supremacy rages on, companies want to win over amateur and professional shooters alike. That's not to say that Nokia or Apple expects you to replace your SLR with a Lumia 1020 or iPhone 5S, but they would probably love to claim that "most professional photographers use our phone."

After months of rumors about an "EOS camera," Nokia has finally announced its new Lumia 1020 photo-centric smartphone, a device that fuses serious camera functionality with the concept of a phone.

It appears that Nokia's upcoming 41-megapixel smartphone (codenamed "EOS") will carry the name "Lumia 1020." This latest leak comes packaged with an even more interesting leak: new photos captured with the phone itself.
