There are two ways to look at an incrementally improved DSLR: either the company missed an opportunity to improve something that has fallen behind the industry standard, or they are leaving well enough alone and not 'fixing it if it ain't broke,' so to speak.

Nikon's replacement for both the D800 and D800E, the D810, falls into that latter category: an incrementally improved DSLR that probably won't receive too much flack for it.

Just when we started to think the big two had given up on making mirrorless cameras for the US market, Nikon goes and changes our mind. After announcing the Nikon 1 J4 for Asia and Europe in early April, the Japanese company has announced that the mirrorless shooter will come to the US after all, and it will be joined by a new entry-level Nikon 1 S2.

What's churning away in the rumor mills regarding Nikon? According to Nikon Rumors, it's the impending announcement of the Nikon 1 V3, the 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD VR lens, the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR zoom, and a new Nikon 1-series light that may very well be one of the prototype LED lights Nikon revealed at PhotoPlus.

The CES announcement train keeps on rolling with another one we saw coming thanks to the ever-increasing accuracy of rumor sites. Nikon has officially launched the consumer-level D3300 -- complete with a few hardware upgrades and a new kit lens -- as well as the long-rumored 35mm f/1.8G full-frame lens and a few new CoolPix models.

There's no denying that the Sony a7 and a7R made quite the splash in the photographic industry both before and after their official arrival. The new shooter, which was unveiled at midnight last night, is a marginal improvement on the D600 that adds just a few new or improved features.

It wasn't long ago that Canon revamped its compact line-up, adding a new flagship compact G16 and a few minor other updates. Now, just a few weeks behind, Nikon is doing something similar by announcing a new flagship prosumer point-and-shoot, an ultra-portable compact and a movie light for the Nikon 1-series mirrorless cameras.

The releases contain info about three new products that Nikon is announcing all at the same time: a new DX format lens, a small speedlight, and a 14x superzoom compact camera.
