While firmware updates aren't often anything too exciting, a recent patch from Leica actually provides some welcome quality-of-life upgrades.

"Inspired by the classics," Leica has launched a new silver edition of its full-frame SL2 camera. The L-mount camera has previously only been available in black, but now comes in a stylish black and silver color for the same price.
Leica is expanding the native lens support for its L-mount SL-System cameras, the SL2 and the SL2-S, with the addition of the Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH and the Summicron-SL 50mm f/2 ASPH.
Leica is giving its SL2-S the "Reporter" treatment, outfitting the camera with a more resilient exterior to make it better able to resist extreme temperatures, shocks, dust, and water.
Leica has historically been known for rangefinder-style cameras but has branched away in recent years. But if there is one thing the company should take away from the praise the new M11 is getting, it's that it should stick with what it's good at.
Leica has finally officially revealed the M11 Rangefinder, letting us finally put all the rumors of what we may or may not expect to rest. Now that it's here, what has five years of development given us?
The idea of a Leica camera with image stabilization, a built-in EVF, Wi-Fi, 2 card slots, and endless more features may seem like a very foreign concept for legacy Leica shooters. However, this is exactly what Leica has made in the SL2-S.
Leica recently introduced its $2,795 Vario-Elmarti-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, the latest zoom lens for L-Mount systems. It's not what most would call "cheap," but it certainly is inexpensive compared to the rest of Leica's lineup. But does that mean a dip in performance?
Leica has announced its version of the popular "desert island" lens in the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH., what it calls an "ideal lens with broad appeal," as it is capable across multiple disciplines from travel, studio, architecture, photojournalism, portraiture, and more.
Leica has announced the SL2-S, a 24.6-megapixel L-Mount full-frame mirrorless camera that puts more emphasis on speed and video performance than the original SL2. Capable of 25 frames per second shooting and ISO up to 100,000, the SL2-S also boasts considerable video prowess.
The Leica SL2 replaces the SL typ 601 and represents the very best performance and image quality that Leica can produce. It’s the flagship. While maintaining iconic colours and shooting experience, this camera is one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever had the pleasure of using.
Leica has released Firmware Update 2.0 for the full-frame mirrorless Leica SL2, and it delivers on a major feature Leica promised at launch. As of today, you can now shoot 187MP photos using the new 'Multishot' mode that this update has added to the Drive Mode menu.
Every camera made today is great. This is a statement I have stood behind for several years now because it's true. It's hard to go wrong with any camera made today because the technology gap has narrowed considerably. But even so, each year there are cameras that stand out from the rest and deserve praise.
If you've bought into the L-Mount, Sigma just added two very compelling new primes to your list of lens options. The Sigma 40mm f/1.4 Art and 105mm f/1.4 Art 'bokeh master' are both dropping two weeks from today on December 20th, just in time for an end-of-year pick-me-up for your Sigma fp, Panasonic S1 or Leica SL2.
Up until a few weeks ago, I had never used a Leica. I don't think I'd ever even held one or knew much about them other than the occasional story of an outlandishly expensive iteration on a camera previously on the market. I had preconceived notions about the kind of company Leica was, about their goals, and about their strategy. I expected very little, regardless of what they were going to show me.
Leica has announced the SL2, a full-frame mirrorless camera that replaces the SL that was announced back in 2015. Leica says the new "all-purpose" camera "resets the tone for the mirrorless market."
Not to be left behind by the likes of Nikon, Canon and Sony, it seems Leica is planning to release a new full-frame mirrorless camera of its own.
