Looking to make its medium format S-series lineup a bit more robust, Leica unveiled two new S-series camera bodies and a new S-series lens at Photokina this morning. The two cameras are the ‘entry-level’ CCD-sensor Leica S-E (Type 006) and the ‘top-end’ 4K-capable CMOS-sensor Leica S (Type 007), and they're joined by the Summicron-S 100mm f/2 lens.
From some talks with a Leica rep at the 2014 NAB show, it looks like Digipixelpop has found out that the next Leica S will be announced at Photokina in September. Packing a 40-50MP medium format CMOS sensor and 4K video, it's an interesting addition to Leica's current line-up, but one we probably should've seen coming considering PhaseOne, Pentax and Hasselblad have all already hopped on the CMOS medium format train.
About a month ago, Leica Camera AG made an announcement that's bound to make prospective buyers happy, while possibly justifying the price tag of a Leica camera a tiny bit. The company has decided to begin including Adobe Lightroom 5 with every Leica S, M, X, V and D-Lux camera from here on out.
