Photo Shoot Raises Awareness of Toxic Laundry Water

Benjamin Von Wong, a viral photographer turned environmentalist, has released a new project to raise awareness about "toxic laundry" that is full of plastic. An estimated 94% of American tap water contains invisible plastic fibers, and Von Wong felt compelled to do something about it.

"Inspirational" probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you think about laundry, but for photographer Yvette Meltzer, that’s exactly what it turned out to be. Shirts strung over a clothesline, laundry being sloshed around with suds, and most recently, piles of clothes being tossed about inside the confines of a dryer.

Laundry Around the World Photographed From Below

While walking through Tel Aviv's Jaffa neighborhood some years back, New York-based travel photographer Sivan Askayo was drawn to the vibrant articles of clothing hovering overhead. She photographed this laundry from below, liked what she saw, and began a photo project that has since taken her around the world.
