I shot the photo above during a visit to Zermatt in October 2020. It was my fifth time there, and the second time the weather had been clear enough to allow me to see the famous mountain. The first time I saw this scene, in May 2019, I knew immediately it was a photo. I mean, I knew immediately it was an interesting photo.
More than a year after announcing the thing in June of 2019, Hasselblad is finally ready to start selling and shipping the 907X 50C: a (relatively) compact medium format system that combines the CFV II 50C V System digital back with the smallest medium format body Hasselblad has ever made.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing—which took place on July 20th, 1969—Hasselblad has announced that it will make a Special Edition matte black version of its 907x camera body and CFV II 50c digital back with a commemorative “On the Moon Since 1969” plate on the side.
Fujifilm is the largest medium format camera manufacturer in the world. Its resources are vast and the experience it has as a company is extensive. Hasselblad, on the other hand, is a tiny Swedish company that solely produces niche high-value cameras. This may seem like a David and Goliath type story, but considering the sheer differences in size between the two companies, this is more of a David and Godzilla type story.
