Don’t Shoot Guns, Shoot Cameras (DSGSC) is a program that's working to keep youth away from gang violence by teaching them to shoot cameras and not guns.
Back in November 2015, Toronto-based photographer and early childhood educator Yasin Osman began an initiative called #ShootForPeace. Every Sunday, he would arrange a meetup with local youths, hand out some cameras, and take them on a photo walk. His goal was to use photography to reclaim the streets from crime to art.
Since 2013, photographer Kathy Shorr has been shooting portraits of subjects who have been shot by guns -- the victims and survivors of gun violence from around the United States. The ongoing project is titled "SHOT" and now contains over 50 portraits.
Here's a great photo series by artist Sonia Rentsch that quite literally takes the "fire" out of firearms. Dubbed "Harm Less," the series consists entirely of weaponry made out of only organic materials.
