Denver-based photographer Lazar Gintchin always dreamed of visiting the Faroe Islands. In 2021, he bit the bullet and booked his trip to photograph the remote but deeply-alluring archipelago that is tucked far away in the North Atlantic Ocean.
This was one of my scariest moments as a photographer. What you don't see in this photo is the 100-meter (~330-foot) drop in front of me and the gale force wind from behind. Two minutes of light and then it was dark again.
At the time of my takeover of the Visit Faroe Islands account, my own account was around 5k followers. To briefly run and manage a page that has surpassed 100k was a great learning experience. Here are a few things I learned along the way that might help others.
Faroe Islands is an island country halfway between Norway and Iceland. It features some of the world's most beautiful roads, but those routes haven't been traversed by Google's Street View camera cars. So, the country decided to take matters into its own hands by mapping the island with sheep-mounted 360-degree cameras. It's called Sheep View 360.
